The Cult of iThings

iWish they would just give Mac fans a break. Why do they hate us? Seriously.

The reason why some prefer Apple products is not lost on those who actually use them: reliable, distinctive, easy and fun to use.

The cult of iThings A friend – and fellow Mac user – alerted me to a great article in today’s Sydney Morning Herald, about the enthusiasm Apple devotees show for the newest gadgets produced by the company, despite the apparently hefty price tag. In it, Damian Thompson (just prior to confessing that he already owns an iPad) asks: Anyone who has studied addiction will recognise two troubling features of our obsession with this technology: the replacement of people by … Read More

Gosh, you didn’t think I wrote that post because I hated Mac products, did you?

I’m a big fan – for many reasons. But I do think that Thompson’s comments about our obsessions with this sort of technology are thought-provoking. Regardless of which particular brand we buy. Christian’s comment on my post gets to the heart of the issue really well.

Come the release of the next generation of iPods I’ll be right there in the queue with all the other addicts. But I’ll also be conscious of why I’m buying and how I use the product.

    • Goodness no. Sorry for the lack of clarity!

I am taking about people who seem to have this rabid dislike of Apple products. The superior design and ease of use seems to have escaped them in explaining loyalty to Apple.

Some do, don’t they? I have a friend who says that the iPad is like Jesus. You either love it, or hate it with a passion. She’s right!

    Cheers 🙂

as i said on ohmykozy’s blog post, if anyone would’ve been cynical about the whole mac craze, you’re looking at him. i must say that for the folks that are so anti-mac, i’d be happy to listen to anyone with plausible and pragmatic reasons for me to choose otherwise. up to this point, i have yet to be convinced except on the pricing which can still be overcome by the time value of money (i.e. length of ownership of each device and the value of resale).
